MAY 5, 2020 – Looking back at the 30th day post not much has changed. Well, maybe it has. We are now into a new month. New rules of engagement have been established and soon places will be “open” including my work. We all are being told by our Government officials that on May 11 when Phase 1 of “opening” begins, we are mandated to wear masks when in public. That drove me to do my podcast episode, A Masked Society. I will not go into this topic here.
As with the last 30 days, we have done what has been asked of us, we have stayed home and stayed healthy. One of the family HAS returned to work, behind a mask, which makes me wonder is that REALLY safe even if just one of us is out dealing with the masses? If we are going to start opening up the economy shouldn’t it just all open up and be done with it ?
Speaking of economy…we have still got one that hasn’t seen one dime of unemployment and only one call that ended up being useless after a lengthy hold because all she could say was “I don’t have access to help you”. Makes me wonder WHY the hell she was even answering the phones?! She did give us an e-mail address, that of course went no where!
Anyway, we had another few days of just doing stuff around the house. We have finally done some long over due maintenance on our trailers we use to haul stuff. Not having a truck in the family means we rely on these trailers for stuff like mowers, camping gear etc. So, one had a new axle, springs and hubs/bearings installed. Took it for a test run and it was VERY nice not worrying about hubs catching on fire. The other trailer, enclosed, had to have a door rebuilt as it had literally rotted. We had already pressure washed it once but it is in need of more TLC. Plans to apply a wrap once we can get the funding for it because painting it is just too expensive. We went through all of our camping gear and organized it a bit, some stuff remains in the trailer in the event of an opening to go, we can just load and go.
There won’t be any “going” for us … all hopes of a vacation have dwindled thanks to the stupid COVID shit. I honestly don’t understand WHY we cannot just go about our day as it was? I mean, we don’t shut down for the flu. We didn’t shut the world down for AIDS. We don’t shut down for cancer. I know, this is a ‘new’ virus that we know nothing about, but will we truly EVER know everything? Anyway…I cannot clog the internet with more COVID crap. I just wonder.
The kids and I spent an entire day outside tinkering with stuff from cars to dogs. We even pulled out the old corn hole and ladder ball games we found in storage and played pretty much all day in the sun. The dogs were loving the outdoors. Neighbors were all cooped up inside, presumed to be doing school work or working remotely. We played some music, ate lunch and played games … it was a good day. Once the neighborhood began to wake up and crawl from their homes, we saw joggers, bikers, walkers and skateboarders. We continued to play our game. Everyone that passed would say “hi” and most would comment on our beautiful dogs. Feels good to hear positive feedback from nice people.
After so much time outside, we are looking forward to spending the next few days just relaxing. Might take a short trip to see some beautiful Kentucky land. We are hopeing to buy some land one day … so we might just take the journey one day and check out some property we have had our eyes on from afar. Long drives to and from will take up the time. We will, of course, practice social distancing but I am almost certain we won’t encounter folks out in the rural places we have set our sights on.
I love to let my imagination run when we look at property. I think of all the things I would LOVE to do and have on the property. A simple home that fits my family with room to have private space. Don’t need or want anything really ellaborate, like home theatre, bowling alley etc. Outdoor space for us to enjoy with the dogs, a nice shop for us to work on our cars/hobbies and peaceful surroundings with nature. A place for friends who visit to hang out and share in our peaceful chunk of this Earth. Maybe a tiny home for friends? Trees MUST be away from the home – I am not a fan of trees on roofs during storms – so trees must be far enough away to miss the home if they fall. We know Kentucky weather is unpredictable, so I am going to err on the side of caution and prepare for them to fall but not on my home. BTDT.
We can all dream. Lord knows I have dreamt of such a place for many years.
Speaking of dreaming – I feel a nap in my future. This rainy day is perfect for that.
Until next post…
