COVID-19 Lockdown Days 22, 23 & 24

APRIL 19, 2020 – Apologies if anyone has been looking for this as a daily blog.  As is typical, I got a bit lazy.  If it weren’t for the phone or the little “date/time” indicator on my computer, I honestly wouldn’t know what day or date it is.  I wake up and ask “Alexa, what is today’s date?”  Praying no one has hacked her and she tells me the truth.  Why does the day or date really matter?  It doesn’t I’m not going anywhere, I don’t have any appointments.  No one is coming to visit nor am I visiting anyone.  Our vacation has been pushed…3 times I believe.

Let me talk a minute about our ‘vacation’.  In our almost 25 years of marriage we have not really taken a vacation.  We have had intentions and discussions but with two active kids, working and three deployments – a vacation is never in the cards.  So here we are, our kids are adults, we had vacation days built up and we had saved enough money to finally take a trip.  We planned a trip as a couple, kids have jobs, with our three huskies we rescued over the last year.  We wanted to experience camping – more like “glamping” and had rented the camper, planned out the trip, planned to meet up with another couple and booked everything!  We counted down the days.  We booked this months out for mid-April.  Then…the pandemic known affectionately as CORONAVIRUS or COVID-19 struck our world.  Literally, the entire world!  So, anticipating the possible changes, we moved it a few days.  Then when I was laid off because of mandated shutdown and things around us started to be shut down, we moved it again.  Changed the route to accommodate potential travel restrictions and then, we got the word that travel was restricted for us until April 30.  So we moved it to May!

Folks, if you know me, this is why I have never planned a vacation.  It never works out for me.  We are now concerned that we won’t be allowed to travel even in May.  We have everything prepped and ready, we just have to pack.  When we are given the green light, I can promise you I will have things packed and ready to go before they can change their minds.

Now, let’s talk about this “lockdown”.  I plan to work on material and go in depth on my podcast, because people are just going absolutely bonkers.  I did my weekly trip to SAMs Club and THANKFULLY it was without incident.  You have to listen to my podcast to get the scoop…and I didn’t make a stop at ZAXBY’S either.  I will elaborate a little bit and say that today vs 7 days ago was quite different.  Today, I witnessed couples being turned away from entering the store – they were only allowing one person in the door of the couples I saw approach as a pair.  It had nothing to do with capacity or protective gear, because I saw various couples walk up, one wearing a mask the other not, both not in masks or both in masks and every time, one was turned away.  If common sense could be served in a cup!!  Folks, it has been said since the beginning, people from same families should NOT go out to do supply runs together.  The odds become greater against you.  It has nothing to do with politics, religion, freedom, race, or gender – it is simply for the safety of yourself and others.  It decreases the odds of exposure.

I’m not jumping on that soapbox this late, because I am working on a podcast.  I will say that I wish folks would just try to dig deep into their brains God gave them and use it for good instead of selfishness.  Find a hobby, a book, a puzzle, a TV show or something and stay at home unless you a trip out is absolutely unavoidable.

What have I done for these few days…since I haven’t blogged?  Well, I have managed to kick off a podcast, in the event you missed that news.  I have enjoyed much needed rest.  I have done laundry.  Spent time with my family and dogs.  Done some research on a few interests/hobbies of mine.  I have watched a few YouTube videos of people I subscribe to and have not had time to watch.  I have cleaned out some keepsakes that were stuffed in tubs for the last 20+ years.  I helped the spouse on a total exhaust replacement.  I have texted/snap chatted with a few co-workers and my best friend.  I have reached out to people I grew up with struck by a tornado and let them know I care.  Most of all, I have done my part to “stay home, stay healthy”.  I don’t get why other’s cannot do the same?

I invite you to leave me a comment and tell me what you have done.  Give me ideas.  Let me know if you would like them shared on the podcast with/without name.  I really want to believe that MORE are staying home than are going out causing chaos.  Restore my faith in humanity – please!

Until next time.  Check out the podcast … drop me a comment or voicemail (links on podcast page).  If you don’t do any of those things – please stay home, stay healthy!
