COVID-19 Hits Education First…

Today is MARCH 20, 2020 – Nothing is normal for us these days.  The world is buzzing about the “corona virus” aka COVID-19.  Everyone is suddenly concerned about cleanliness.  The simple lessons we learned as toddlers is all the rage.  Everyone is suddenly hoarding toilet paper, hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes. The stores are literally out of those things.  Co-workers are talking about their experiences and how even thermometers are hard to find.

Churches are cancelling services.  Schools have closed….some not planning to open until April 13.  Colleges are sending students off campus for online learning.  More importantly, sports are cancelling….all around us at all levels.

  • NBA suspended its season on March 11
  • NCAA Tournament was canceled on March 12
  • MLB suspended operations on March 12 and then pushed back opening day to mid-May at the earliest on March 16
  • NHL paused its season on March 12
  • MLS shut down on March 12 and is targeting a May 10 start date
  • The Masters was postponed on March 13
  • Kentucky Derby was moved to September on March 17
  • WNBA draft will still be held April 17 but without players, fans and media present

This is a MAJOR hit to our business and I can feel it.  I am just holding my breath because I know it’s coming.  There are small things around me at work that I notice but not sharing.  No need to cause undue panic, start rumors or look like a paranoid fool. It’s easier to just wait….well, kind of.
