THIS IS NOT MY TYPICAL SOAPBOX POST.
I HAVE CHOSEN TO DOCUMENT THE EVENTS SURROUNDING THE PANDEMIC KNOWN AS ‘COVID-19’.
MARCH 12, 2020 – The day was just like any other day. I was at work. The world was buzzing about the “CORONA VIRUS” or “COVID-19”.
The previous weekend, we had made a normal trip to the local SAMS Club for typical things and discovered that this virus was making people crazy. There was NO toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer, kleenex, cleaning wipes as well as other items, I can’t remember them all.
Not being hoarders, our only real purpose for the SAMS Club membership had been for the gas prices, bulk drinks, snacks and the random electronics. This day was no different, we were NOT rushing in to grab anything like the world was ending but we DID need toilet paper. We were out of luck….so we thought. As we were leaving, we happened down an isle to cut across the store and sitting there like a lonely kid was a large box of toilet paper. It didn’t take us long to snatch it and go!
At 4:30pm, an email was read to me at work. I KNEW immediately it was going to change our lives. A local baseball league was “suspending” their order for jerseys. This was HUGE for us. I told a co-worker that this was just going to get worse. I began to think about things I witnessed the previous weekend. I tried to explain to my coworker the impact this was going to have on us and it wasn’t received with the same concern. I could do nothing but see how things unfolded.
This was just the beginning…
