A Quote That Rings True….

So, I have been working a lot of long hours lately. Been at the same job for 4 years and 7 months….hoping I make it to 5 years.  Each year, the business has seen a steady growth. We are a production based business, customized apparel mostly for athletes.  Without giving away specifics, let me just get to the point.

First, let me set the record straight (ya know, in the event anyone who knows me actually reads this)… I LOVE MY JOBI LOVE WHAT I DO. I LOVE (you can ask my family this)… SEEING WHAT I DO ALL AROUND ME EVERY DAY.

I DO NOT LOVE being stuck in a confined 3′ x 14′ space. I DO NOT LOVE being told to produce things that look sub par, or worse, I DO NOT LOVE being told to accept things the way they are. I DO NOT LOVE being treated as if I cannot perform a task (that is an entirely separate post).

Recently, I have been clocking up to 118 hours in a 15 day cycle, i.e. pay period.  Going from roughly 60 hours to 118 hours is KILLER. It’s great that the work is there to afford me the hours; but…the demands are really beginning to weigh on a few of us.  See, the company is growing in sales staff, thus sales have increased, but the production staff, has not grown at the same rate.  We are doing twice as much work with the same number of people.

So, every day, I think of this saying:

insanity

I have been vocal about what I THINK we need to do to meet the production demands.  I have been honest when asked what I THINK would help.

Of course, true to form…I am ignored.

I have accepted it.

I just tell myself, repeatedly, that I am NOT the insane one, while I walk the 3′ x 14′ space I have been assigned and I do what I have done for 4 years and 7 months.
