Let’s Talk About LAWS…

OK..

There’s ALL this talk about ‘gun control’ i.e. gun laws. There’s laws about where to carry them. How to carry them. Who can carry them. Who’s allowed to buy them. Who’s allowed to sell them etc etc.  The main “law” that is in the headlines is the ‘control’.  People have an idiotic mindset that “making laws will keep guns off streets, kids safe and terrorist away”. OK…let’s analyze that thought for a minute.

Join me as we take an adventure and point out how “effective” laws REALLY are.

A luxury item everyone feels they are “entitled” to have… a car. Now, clearly, there’s no LAW that states we MUST own one, but it’s your privilege and right to own one. There ARE laws about things such as, title, insurance, license and operation. For the most part, people follow that law – okay, I’m kidding.  We all know of stories where folks don’t pay for insurance, taxes/tags or even have a license. BUT WAIT A MINUTE!!! It’s a law damn it! If you make it a law, people will have to do it. – MYTH

Carrying on…

Now, there’s laws on speed, direction of travel, roads accessibility and my favorite, proper lane use.  No one EVER speeds over the limit, goes the wrong direction, drives on a road that is “public use only” or hugs the left lane right?? BUT WAIT A MINUTE!!! There’s laws damn it! If you make it a law, people will have to do it. – MYTH

Ya see folks…laws are no better than a TRO (temporary restraining order)…the ink dries and making paper airplanes is all the paper is worth.  Sure, folks for the most part, obey the ‘laws’ … but, just like the guns/firearms/weapons laws…those who don’t give a crap about laws, prefer to gamble on getting caught or just don’t care about themselves or others WILL NOT OBEY LAWS NO MATTER HOW MANY YOU MAKE.

In my opinion, those who like to ‘bend the rules/laws’ are not very respectful people. If you just sit and look around you, you will notice A LOT of people who are not very respectful and probably very unhappy people.

For example, my husband and I were at a local Qdoba tonight. We noticed when we arrived that there were specific spots for three shops that had a 10 minute parking limit.  We avoided the spots, drove around and found another spot, there were plenty. We got inside.  Ordered. Sat by the window…watching the parking lot.  As we had walked inside, we noticed a small truck parked by the curb clearly marked “NO PARKING” right at the door, again, who does NOT know that is a FIRE LANE?  As we began to eat, I looked around and by deductive reasoning, I picked out the driver of that truck.  He was standing talking to a family, bragging about his July 4th holiday and how wonderful he was at everything.  They would mention something and he would tell a taller tell.  I knew it was him.  There were 2 boys running about outside.  They were in baseball pants and cleats. About 10 more minutes passed, the guy said his farewells and even said, “I’ll see you tomorrow”… (OKAY..PAUSE = if you were going to see them tomorrow, couldn’t you have done the bragging then and NOT parked illegally today!!?!?)

RESTART.

He gathered the boys, walked out and into the Little Caesars next door.  Meanwhile, I noticed a car parking in one of the 10 minute spots. An Indian family climbed out…first the lady, then a small kid, then another kid came around and finally a man, talking on his phone.  They took their time walking in…and guess what…it was going to be more than 10 minutes, I can promise you that!  With two little kids and a man occupied on the phone, he clearly didn’t give a damn about the sign. My attention then goes back to the truck by the curb….the man climbed in. I was right!! It was “Mr Billy Bad Ass” that had just been in here talking for 15 minutes. One of the little boys jumps in with a drink and the other with 3 pizza boxes. Off they went.  Moving the truck from the illegally parked spot…that man obviously didn’t give a damn about the no parking zone.  Then, within minutes, another vehicle arrived…parked where the truck was. DAMN PEOPLE…it is clearly a fire lane!  This lady got out and ran into Little Caesars. About the same time, we noticed another car arrive.  It was a very pretty blue so it got our attention. The driver was talking on the phone and parked in another 10 minute spot.  She got out.  We watched. Sizing her up..she had on a uniform and name badge…she worked at the airport.  Makes sense..it’s nearby.  Maybe she’s in a hurry.  OK..maybe she will be in and out.  The car that was parked in the fire lane left. It was clear little “Miss Rules Aren’t for Blondes” didn’t give a damn about he fire lane.  Back to the airport lady.  Watching and learning…she ordered…and sat down!!!!  She was definitely NOT leaving in 10 minutes!!!  “Airport Queen” clearly didn’t give a damn about the 10 minute parking sign.

We cleared our stuff and left…just as we stepped off the curb an older lady pulled up in her white crossover, somewhat parked – it was more like a slide into 2nd parking – in the fire lane, got out, locked the car and went into Little Caesars. It was clear that “Miss Pep in her Step Granny” didn’t give a damn about the fire lane.

The moral of the story folks…look around you!  EVERYONE is guilty at some time of disobeying laws/rules.  It’s the ones who show blatant and utter disregard for laws/rules like these folks that make the people jump up and scream “WE NEED MORE LAWS”.  NO we don’t need more laws.  What we need is ENFORCEMENT!! Just like I have said, having a ‘smoke free campus’ is great as long as it’s enforced.  When it’s NOT enforced and people KNOW it won’t be enforced, they begin to just pretend there are no laws/rules and they do what they want.

Folks..plain and simple.  Making gun/weapons laws or taking them away WILL NOT fix the problems with society. Society needs a MAJOR reboot. People need to be held accountable for their actions…for things as minor as parking in a 10 minute spot to buying a weapon illegally. Those who set the laws must have a way to enforce them.  No different than when a neighborhood wants their local county/city to put up “neighborhood watch” signs….the first thing they are told is, “as long as YOU will be the ones enforcing it, we will put up the signs”.  That means “WE THE PEOPLE” are responsible for holding others accountable.  Give me the authority to walk up to people like these at Qdoba, give them a ticket for illegal parking. Then, I could begin working on idiots who drive in left lane barely going speed limit or those I see texting while driving…..

SO…do we NEED laws ?? Yes. They are designed to keep order and avoid chaos. Do we NEED more laws?? No.  We need to enforce the ones we have!

Thanks for jumping on my soapbox!!
