Sorry folks…the Edgenuity battle continues. It’s the first Monday of school and I already see this Edgenuity being shoved in students’ faces – literally!
Congrats to the staff though. For undoing what I have worked so hard to teach my kids – that computers, TV’s, iPads, TV etc are to be used in moderation. Heck…my kids JUST got computers in their rooms!!!! Now you sit students in front of a computer for 4 hours! Really? As a student studying computer programming I NEVER had 4 hours straight forced on me. Not to say that my programming was done in less time, but that was on ME! I chose the profession!
Reading about my kids’ day on social media, pisses me off! There. I. Said. It! (Read featured image…poor kid is so shook up they can’t spell LOL)
I’ve emailed the counselor….and I wait!
While waiting, I find out that the first hour in this “lab” made my blood boil more. The first block is Spanish. Of course, my instinct is to ask how can you learn a language via computer? Then I think of Rosetta Stone…okay, so it’s possible even though it don’t work for everyone. If it did, as an educated parent, I would have purchased this tool already and we would have this class whipped! Anyway, I learn that these students are NOT in the lab doing anything even remotely close to Rosetta Stone or Edgenuity….it’s is because that’s the teacher’s planning block!! REALLY! Talk about poor management! Maybe those kids should just stay home that block on Monday and plan their day. Heck. I’ll go further and say that any of then stuck in front of a computer for more than two consecutive blocks should stay home. Do this “learning” at home and if you fall behind, THEN, you are required to attend school. See, problem solved!
