Well, I’ve been asked to be sure to give my school some positive feedback on my blog…
I can say that I’m pretty positive that I should have been in that building more than the one time, yesterday. Would it have made a difference? Maybe? Maybe not? But at the very least, I wouldn’t have been portrayed as a “bully” because I stood up for myself. Having a teacher falsely accuse you of being “unreachable” can cause some pretty strong emotions.
You see, a picture was being painted to me that my child was NOT showing up for extra help before and after school. So, as a mom of teens, I decided to take a stroll into said building and check up on said teen. While I was there, I would inquire, with the teacher, about a missing paper that I know was emailed to them.
Thankfully (for my teen) they were staying after. I stood quietly in the very noisy hall. An adult, I now know as teacher, exited the room…barely said hello and disappeared. Moments later, my teen exited the room…spotted me and ignored me…going to same location the adult had gone.
The POSITIVE things:
1) my teen was where they were suppose to be;
2) the teacher had no clue who I was (because I have tried to remain in the background);
3) the teacher found the paper….but that is another saga;
4) next time I meet with anyone, I will take my own advice and record the conversation….I will NOT be falsely accused again;
5) anytime you are willing to step out from behind an email or social media, beware of the consequences….
So I can positively say that…our school has teachers staying to help kids and no they do NOT receive any extra pay. (Let’s face it, who teaches for the pay?). I can also positively say, parents need to be more involved. I can also say that after months and months the school has decided to finally offer my child some much needed help in math that does not (better not) involve Edgenuity or any other form of online learning.
