Ok…first off…this is a BIG soap box for me. Yes, I am the minivan drivin’ soccer mom and damn proud of it! My girl has played since age 5 (she is almost 13). I have been up the ranks, spectator, team mom, coach, board member & most recently…team manager. I love watching my girl play…and…she loves her 7-day a week, juggling 2 teams schedule.
So, what is my soap box?
ONE: Fields…fields in our county SUCK!! Why is there not someone somewhere putting money into a NICE turf field that will benefit, football, soccer, marching band and the district image? We have an East v West split in our county and while West tends to get the better facilities..THEY BOTH need something equal!!! Ok…so I get it, football hates Marching Band & soccer on their field..get over it!!! Turf field at each school would free up the endless hassles of scheduling. Granted, the JV/Varsity season would need some juggling or an alternate location…but, it certainly beats these kids playing in an ecoli saturated field or bermuda grass peeling beneath their feet resulting in injury and health issues. Seriously…someone give me a reason that our county seems to be the worse about accomodating our soccer players?!? Quit pouring money into repairs…Loosen the money belt for soccer as it has been done for basketball and football…time to get on the bandwagon of America’s fastest growing sport!!!
SECOND: Conduct. Soccer is a physical game of keep away..much like “American” football. However…the use of any hands is prohibited except for goalie…who also has restrictions…against taking a balled up full fledged fisted swing at players!!! YES!! Our u12 select team played a team (refuse to mention for free publicity)…Saturday, March 17, 2012. In the Fall, a double header game with this same team was a sailor game-on their part-one girl using foul language and a little too much body to brutally play a game that clearly she cannot play. Of course, she showed her brutality on March 17th…a corner kick by blue, our defender was clearly trying to get to the ball but..well, watch the video snipet I happened to get… click here
She was allowed to continue to play!!!!
